Artists I Like
My musical tastes change more often than I change my underpants (which isn't difficult), but certain bands, singers, albums or songs I keep coming back to. Here are some of my favourites. If you don't already know them, check them out on youtube or something... or not... it's up to you!
A lot of these people have either influenced me massively, or I just think they're really good.
Portishead
Always were and always will be.... awesome.
My all time favourite band (you may disagree... but I'm right and you're wrong!)
Favourite track: Anything off "Dummy"
Favourite Album: Dummy
Bjork
Mad as a box of frogs on acid, but all the better for it!
Favourite track: Venus As A Boy
Favourite Album: Debut
The Pixies
If you haven't got anything by The Pixies in your collection... you're a nob!
Favourite track: it depends on my mood, but Monkey Gone To Heaven is always good. La La Love You does have a really good drum track though!
Favourite Album: Doolittle
Lily Allen
Say what you want about Lily, she makes good pop songs....
...... she's also BANG TIDY!
Favourite track: Take What You Take
Favourite Album: Alright Still
Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band
Breaks galore! They say that James Brown was the most sampled artist of all time, but I'm sure if you include uncleared samples, these guys would win hands down! Every single track is full of sample fodder but is also just a great track!
Favourite track: Apache (purely for the drum breaks!)
Favourite Album: Well they only did the one: Bongo Rock
Imogen Heap
An extremely talented singer, songwriter and musician. Imogen used to be a member of Frou Frou before she went solo.
Favourite track: Just For Now or Hide And Seek
Favourite Album: Speak For Yourself
Rob Overseer
He did the music from an iPod advert don't ya know!
I like his stuff cos each track is different. He jumps from rap to trip hop to rave to big beat and it all works!
Favourite track: Sparks (beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!)
Favourite Album: Wreckage
Radiohead
Possibly the funniest looking band in history!
Ok, they went a bit too far with their blippy bloppy arty farty Kid A and the like, but their earlier stuff (and more recent releases for that matter) were pure genius. Many bands owe a lot to these boys from Oxford... not least Muse (also known as "Radiohead Lite")!
Favourite Track: Talk Show Host
Favourite Album: The Bends
Tori Amos
Strangely sexy redheaded piano playing temptress!
Tori Amos is one of the most talented musicians I've ever come across.
Armand Van Helden's Remix of Professional Widow got me dancing like a complete idiot on many occasions!
Favourite track: Leather
Favourite Album: Boys For Pele
Susanne Sundfør
Ok, I've only just discovered this girl, but she has an unbelievably beautiful voice (she's also a bit of a hotty!)
Favourite track: I'm not sure yet!
Favourite Album: I'm also not sure yet!
